I don’t know who Jamere Holland is, I didn’t know until now the Oregon Ducks was the name of an actual team, and I don’t care that he’s been dismissed.
What interests me more is WHY it happened.
(WARNING: SOME OF THE IMAGES BELOW CONTAIN LANGUAGE YOU MIGHT FIND OBJECTIONABLE.)
The Ducks first announced that Kiki Alonso (who I also have never heard of) was leaving the team after being arrested for a DUI. Evidentally he and Holland were close, which led to this incredibly unfortunate Facebook post.
Now before you go crazy, he might have been somewhat frustrated. After all, his friend on the team was let go. Sure, some people might have had a problem with what he said, but I can only hope that after careful reflection he saw that he went too far.
OKAY. He made a somewhat unfortunate joke about race, but that happens! I’m sure there’s NO POSSIBLE WAY he could make it worse for himself.
I take it back.
Sigh. Anything else?
Yeah! Freedom of speech is meaningless because a football player was dismissed for saying REALLY REALLY unfortunate things on his Facebook page.
Actually, he’s technically right, because free speech includes dumb speech.
